It’s that time of year again. What time might that be you ask? The time to sign-up and participate with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA)!
VITA is an opportunity to give true value to the Chicago community in a very personal way.
Once again the Chicago Chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) will be around to help. As in past years, NABA will be providing free income tax assistance to low and medium income individuals and families.
At this time, we are recruiting volunteers for assistance to help our program continue its success as in past years. We will operate in 2 locations this year on Chicago’s south side. We expect a great turnout by the community which is more of a reason that you should sign up and volunteer. We also have a siste rsite in Waukegan for those of you on the North Shore.
Please be advised that you DO NOT need a tax background to assist these families as a tax preparer since training will be provided. You will be required to pass a test that certifies you as a tax preparer under the VITA program. I will personally help you as much as possible to ensure that you are certified. The training will be held January 21st and 28th from 10a-2p. The location has yet to be determined but please save the dates. I aks that you bring your eagerness and we’ll bring the knowledge to pass along to you. For those that do not feel comfortable as a tax preparer, you can volunteer in the administrative role. The attached flyer will be distributed throughout various communities to advertise the service.
